October 24th, 2007 Basic Health Tips for Women in Busy Times

The other day as I was talking to a friend about some women health related issues and I had a bit of a minor epiphany. You see my friend asked me what things she could do that were simple to implement and didn’t require a major lifestyle change to try and stay healthy. I told her that it seemed like a strange question coming from her, since I’ve always known her to be a fit individual. But, she wanted my opinion. She later confessed that she was picking my brain to get ideas for a book that she wanted to write about fitness for women. Anyhow, this got me to thinking that she was right. There are probably many people who just overlook the simple things, not because they don’t know, but because we get so busy that we forget. And, sometimes we need to be reminded. So, I decided to write a brief article myself.

So here are my basic health tips for women to remain fit and healthy in this busy age:

1. Trying to remain fit and healthy begins with a balanced diet. You should, of course, be aware of and monitor the correct weight for your age. Consult with your doctor to learn what foods you ought to avoid and follow your eating discipline routines. If you are attempting to shed some pounds, then it goes without saying that those favorite foods that are high in calories must go, no matter how convenient. Be sure to include foods with high fiber and low fat. If it has been a while since you have eaten cereal in the morning because it is kids’ food, then be a kid again and eat cereal. Of course, not the high sugar variety, but a good quality whole grain cereal. I prefer the organic cereals myself. Read the rest of this entry »

October 24th, 2007 What is Stress Doing to Your Health?

Look around. One of ten people you see at work, at the store, and wherever you go in your daily life is over stressed at any given moment. Scientists agree that stress causes actual chemical changes in the brain, and these changes can influence the state of your health.

What is Stress?

Stress is any change in your normal routine or health. Stress occurs when bad things happen, as well happy things. Getting a raise or promotion is stress, just as getting fired from your job is stress.Speculative changes cause just as much stress as veritable changes. Pensiveness or anguish about whether you will get that new job is stress the same as being offered a new position is stress.

Good sexual health isn’t just about sexual intercourse. Women should know that sexual health encompasses many other aspects like understanding how your body works, knowing what turns you on and what puts you off, accepting your sexual desires and sexual orientation, choosing a form of sexual expression that you are comfortable with, and knowing how to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases (STD s) and unwanted pregnancies.

Women should understand that sexual health begins with accepting your sexuality. Our earliest perceptions of sex are inculcated in childhood by our parents’ and society’s attitude towards it. Until recently, talking about sex was taboo. So, children, especially females perceive that sex is not a good thing. They hear the disapproving voices discussing homosexuality and they subconsciously register that as well.

These false ideas infiltrate into adulthood and can be a mental hurdle to good sexual health. It could lead to feelings of shame or guilt when indulging in sexual activities, a reluctance to fully explore sexual potential, or a negative approach to sex. Your sexuality is an integral part of who you are. By accepting your desires, women can positively enhance their sexual experiences and create a healthier self-image. As a women and an individual, you should never indulge in anything you are uncomfortable with, especially when it comes to sex. Read the rest of this entry »
